Choosing the Right Length for Your Swimwear

For women who like to have more coverage in a swimsuit than what you get from a bikini bottom, the boy short is a possible solution. Boy shorts also offer more comfort and protection for sports, and are more flattering than a bathing skirt.

Keep in mind that the boy short is best suited for a woman with a longer, slimmer leg. If you have a heavier leg, you’re actually better off with a swimsuit bottom that goes a bit higher, because that will extend and elongate your legs.

(Also watch for our upcoming post about how to choose swimwear that will hide your problem areas.)

Length is also important when choosing the cover-up you’ll wear over top of your bathing suit. The most flattering option for most women is a cover that goes either to just below the knee, or a well-fitting tunic style or sleeveless swim dress that goes even longer.

A cover-up that sits right at the waist and falls to the hip and thigh area makes those areas look bigger rather than smaller, while a full-length cover creates flow all the way down.

With so many swimwear options available today, be sure you experiment with different lengths to find the one that suits you. A personal fitting at a specialty swimwear boutique is the best way to make the right choice.
